CampaignData: Washington - America Burns
Campaign/Washington1.bmp
In the summer of 1814 the British send one of their top generals
with a veteran force on a seaborne assault up the coast of the
Chesapeake Bay.The goal is simple: turn the war around with an
overwhelming attack on the heart of the American east. The British
troops are well-prepared, and the Americans are not. Washington
D.C. and Baltimore both make tempting targets as the British
land in Maryland and prepare to march. The tables are turned
and now the Americans find themselves desparately defending against
an invader.
Branch: MAIN August 24th, 1814
Campaign/Washington2.bmp
The British have landed on the Maryland shore and are marching
towards Washington. Can America muster the force needed to stop
the British in their tracks or will the British repeat history
and sack Washington to exact revenge for the burning of York?
American: Defense
Campaign/Washington3.bmp
Even after finding out their most likely path of advance, there
is hesitation among the American generals regarding the best
position for defense. Their awkward stand is ultimately made
near Bladensburg.
American: Forward defense
Campaign/Washington4.bmp
The Americans have gathered reliable intelligence on the British
advance and move in a timely manner to take up the best position
to head it off.
British: Historical advance
Campaign/Washington5.bmp
Confident of victory, General Ross moves cautiously up the peninsula
to confront the American defenders of Washington wherever he
might find them...
British: Rapid advance
Campaign/Washington6.bmp
The scouts report disorganization in the American ranks. General
Ross pushes forward quickly in an effort to catch them off guard,
and hopefully to defeat them in detail.
Outcome:
003.Bladensburg_a.scn/ 25 SECOND SECOND DRAW DRAW AVICTORY
Your forces are finally assembled and they are the only thing
between the redcoats and Washington. You must hold off the British
attack!
The Americans are on the other side of the river, and apparently
not in great numbers. This may be easier than you thought. Push
though and Washington will be yours!
005.Bladensburg_b.scn/ -35 SECOND SECOND DRAW DRAW AVICTORY
The British are adavncing in force but your positions are well-chosen
and reinforcements are coming. Hold on!
Your lead elements report a large concentration of American forces
just ahead on the east bank of the river. The battle will be
joined shortly and you must carry the day!
007.Bladensburg_c.scn/ -35 SECOND SECOND DRAW DRAW AVICTORY
As your forces slowly arrive on the field, the British come smashing
across the river and into your front ranks. There is no time
left for preparations, all you can do is rush forward and hope
to hold the line!
It appears the Americans aren't prepared for your arrival. Fortune
favors the bold...push on and drive them from the field!
009.Bladensburg_d.scn/ 10 SECOND SECOND DRAW DRAW AVICTORY
With your forces deployed on the east side of the river and reinforcements
coming up, things look good for the Americans. It will not be
easy, but you should be able to hold the British here.
Your army has advanced quickly but it appears most of the American
force is already in position. You will not be able to catch the
enemy unprepared, but your army is strong and ready to fight.
Branch: SECOND September 12, 1814
Campaign/Washington9.bmp
The British flotilla has moved North and landed an army near
Baltimore. Can the local militia stop them or will the city face
the same fate as Washington? If Baltimore falls too, America
may soon lose the war.
American: Defensive Stance
Campaign/Washington9.bmp
Word has reached the Americans that General Ross's column is
advancing up the point to threaten Baltimore. The decision
has been made; you will meet them at the Bouldin Farm, just east
of Baltimore.
American: Advance
Campaign/Washington8.bmp
You advance to meet the British wherever they might be. Your
men are nervous, but ready and willing to fight.
British: Single Landing
Campaign/Washington8.bmp
Your force lands at a single point at the tip of peninsula and
concentrates for the advance.
British: Dual landings
Campaign/Washington7.bmp
Your main body lands at the tip of the peninsula while a secondary
force moves up Back River to flank any defending American force
that you might encounter.
Outcome:
077.North Point_a.scn/ 35 BVICTORY BVICTORY BVICTORY DRAW DRAW
The lines are drawn. Can your militia hold the advancing British
veterans at bay?
A rather large force of Americans has been spotted ahead. A cautious
approach may be prudent.
079.North Point_b.scn/ -15 BVICTORY BVICTORY BVICTORY DRAW DRAW
The British regulars are coming over the rise. The fate of Baltimore
may be in your hands.
The Americans appear unexpectedly to your front. They seem to
be more aggressive than you gave them credit for. But your force
is strong and well-trained. You must push on to Baltimore!
081.North Point_c.scn/ 25 BVICTORY BVICTORY BVICTORY DRAW DRAW
The British are coming, though their numbers seem to be less
than you expected.
Your lead units detect a strong American battle line ahead. It
may be good that you sent a force around their flank. The surprise
may be what allows you main body to advance!
083.North Point_d.scn/ 55 BVICTORY BVICTORY BVICTORY DRAW DRAW
Your forward position is good, but you still should expect a
hard fight. Be vigilant. There is no doubt that the British will
try to drive you from the field.
The Americans are further forward that you expected. Your flanking
column should catch them in the rear!
Terminal: DRAW Draw
campaign/NVictory.bmp
The Americans hold their ground, but just barely. The British
withdraw at their leisure. Baltimore is safe, but only for the
time being.
Terminal: AVICTORY American Victory
campaign/AVictory.bmp
The Americans successfully drive the British back into the Bay!
Baltimore is safe and the British must abandon their campaign.
Terminal: BVICTORY British Victory
campaign/BVictory.bmp
First Washington fell and now the road to Baltimore is open.
The American war effort has been severely damaged by this turn
of events, and British/Canadian morale is at an all time high.
If the British Navy can reduce Fort McHenry, Baltimore will fall
completely and the British will march in victorious. Then, it's
on to Philadelphia!
